John Markoff of the New York Times reports, “Inside Google’s secretive X laboratory, known for inventing self-driving cars and augmented reality glasses, a small group of researchers began working several years ago on a simulation of the human brain. There Google scientists created one of the largest neural networks for machine learning by connecting 16,000 computer processors, which they turned loose on the Internet to learn on its own. Presented with 10 million digital images found in YouTube videos, what did Google’s brain do? What millions of humans do with YouTube: looked for cats.”

He continues, “The neural network taught itself to recognize cats, which is actually no frivolous activity. This week the researchers will present the results of their work at a conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Google scientists and programmers will note that while it is hardly news that the Internet is full of cat videos, the simulation nevertheless surprised them. It performed far better than any previous effort by roughly doubling its accuracy in recognizing objects in a challenging list of 20,000 distinct items. The research is representative of a new generation of computer science that is exploiting the falling cost of computing and the availability of huge clusters of computers in giant data centers. It is leading to significant advances in areas as diverse as machine vision and perception, speech recognition and language translation.”

Rice University researchers have created a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which can be spray painted on to almost any surface. Five layers (two current collectors, a cathode, an anode and a polymer separator) were airbrushed onto various surfaces for testing to create the battery, which was shown to be able to be charged and discharged 60 times with only a very small drop in capacity.

The setup shown above uses nine bathroom tiles connected in parallel, with a solar cell in the middle which converted white laboratory light to charge the unit. It then powered a set of LED lights to spell ‘RICE’ for six hours, at a steady 2.4 volts.

The team hopes that the technology could be combined with printable solar cell technology like this one to allow for electronic devices with completely new form factors.

New data has indicated that the Voyager probe could be about to enter interstellar space. Voyager 1 is the most far-away of any Earth probe, at around 11 billion miles.

The calculations are based partly on information received from Voyager about the speed of the solar wind (the charged particles coming from the Sun). In 2007 it was around 209,000kph, but after dropping to zero in April 2010, it hasn’t picked up since. The solar wind is now instead being blown sideways by a powerful interstellar wind, which was an unexpected twist for most researchers, who hadn’t predicted that wind.

The team calculated that interstellar space likely begins about 11.3 billion miles (18.2 billion km) from Earth. So Voyager 1 appears to be almost there. Since the probe covers about 330 million miles (531 million km) every year, it could pop out of the solar system as early as next year — a surprise, since previous estimates had pegged the probe’s exit at 2015 or so.

That’s not a sure thing, however; the calculation has some uncertainty attached to it. In fact, the heliopause could lie anywhere from about 10 billion to 14 billion miles (16.1 to 22.5 billion km) from Earth, researchers said.

The Special Issue on Mind Uploading (Vol. 4, issue 1, June 2012) of the International Journal of Machine Consciousness, just released, “constitutes a significant milestone in the history of mind uploading research: the first-ever collection of scientific and philosophical papers on the theme of mind uploading,” as Ben Goertzel and Matthew Ikle’ note in the Introduction to this issue. “Mind uploading” is an informal term that refers to transferring the mental contents from a human brain into a different substrate, such as a digital, analog, or quantum computer. SPANISH COMPANY TO COUNT VOTES IN 2012 ELECTION

A Spanish corporation run by a major Obama contributor, has contracted with 900 local jurisdictions in over 14 states to count the votes in the Presidential election.

According to SCYTL’s website, the company’s software will be used to report election results in the state of Arkansas along with 13 other states:

“Scytl’s election management subsidiary, SOE Software, has recently been selected by the Arkansas Secretary of State’s Division of Elections to provide its Clarity ENR solution and enhance the State’s web presentation of Election Night Results. With this selection, Arkansas will join over 800 Election jurisdictions in 13 states that leverage the industry leading election results solution. Clarity ENR presents results data graphically through the utilization of maps, bar charts, totals and downloadable reports. Ballot contest and/or issue information may be presented at the state and county level with granular detail provided down to a specific voting precinct. The solution will empower every web visitor with access to user friendly presentation of voting data to include contest details, status of counties / precincts reporting, voter turnout, vote type summaries and more.”

In addition, SCYTL has contracted with the state of Virginia to develop new technology that will be used to tabulate absentee and military votes.

And in February of this year the state of Connecticut awarded to SCYTL a contract to conduct online poll worker training.

Among the states so far that have contracted with the company are Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Arkansas, Connecticut, Washington, Virginia, and West Virginia. The state of New York has contracted with the company to do its overseas vote tabulations.

During the 2010 midterm elections, SCYTL ‘modernized’ the electoral process in 14 states:

During the midterm elections in November 2010, SCYTL successfully carried out electoral modernization projects in 14 States. The company boasted that a “great variety” of SCYTL’s technologies were involved in these projects, including an online platform for the delivery of blank ballots to overseas voters, an Internet voting platform and e-pollbook software to manage the electoral roll at the polling stations.

The states that used SCYTL’s technologies during the Midterms were New York, Texas, Washington, California, Florida, Alabama, Missouri, Indiana, Kansas, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nebraska, West Virginia and Washington DC.

SCYTL technology was the subject of controversy in South Carolina during its 2012 Republican primary. The Ron Paul campaign charged that there were major problems with the process of vote tabulation implemented by local elections officials who had been trained to use the SCYTL platform. There were also reports of numerous technical failures on the part of electronic voting machines.

Bev Harris, an elections and voter fraud expert, wrote that the manner in which SCYTL reports election results are very hard to monitor for fraud. According to Harris, a citizen observer would have to be present at the time the polls close to capture evidence of precinct results. Otherwise there is no way to compare the numbers.

Harris’ online vote watch venture, BlackBoxVoting, contains a disturbingly lengthy list of an assortment of problems associated with elections and voter fraud in the U.S., including widespread evidence that government officials can now see exactly how an individual citizen voted. The site also delineates how state and local elections officials in certain states routinely mislead the public and outright violate the law.

In the South Carolina case, results were tabulated privately, which is against state law. The state requires that the vote count be done openly, in public. But in order to make sure that the SCYTL machines report the accurate numbers, observers must actually see the physical evidence of the vote before the information is entered into the database.

Such a requirement may be difficult if not impossible to implement, since many states no longer require a paper backup to electronic votes.

South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson sent an official letter to the U.S. Department of Justice to delineate potential fraud in the voting process in the state. Over 900 people who supposedly cast ballots were found later to be deceased.

The fact that each state uses its own system and operates according to its own laws would prevent a nationwide scheme to tamper with the 2012 vote. It is therefore impossible under the current system for the Obama Administration, for example, to implement a vote counting system for every precinct in America, although there are government officials who have made it known that they wish to mandate a uniform voting system that would be used in every state. At present, however, the various states and precincts are not capable of such a thing due to economic issues and other logistics.

But the fact that the SCYTL system is being used in 900 voting jurisdictions in the U.S. means that the potential for widespread vote tampering, even enough to skew the November election, does in fact exist.

According to one political activist who recently presented evidence to a Congressman concerning these issues, the only way for citizens to get something done about preventing potential massive vote fraud in 2012 is to volunteer to be a poll watcher, become a precinct worker, and send the information contained in this article to every local, state, and national politician, along with phone calls and emails to Congressmen, Senators, and state legislators to request investigations.

Virtually no one understands how Social Security works. We’ve allowed our politicians to label it an “Entitlement” program lumped in with welfare. Your Social Security is not welfare. There are no tax monies spent on Social Security. It all comes from your check. The information I’m presenting is from the government SS web site you can find here. Keep in mind your Social Security is broken into two programs - Old Age and Survivors Insurance (OASI) and Disability Insurance (DI). These combine into the overall program, SSA. Now read this:

“Daily deposits received by the OASI and DI which are not required to meet current expenditures are invested in interest bearing obligations of the U.S. government”.

This tells us weekly surplus money is used to buy Treasury Bills. In other words, the government immediately removes extra money and replaces it with an I.O.U. No matter how much you pay into the system, only the EXACT amount needed to write checks this week remains.

Now read this under Section 5 of the report:

“The U.S. Treasury does not set aside financial assets to cover its liabilities associated with the OASI and DI trust funds. The cash received from the OASI and DI trust funds for investment in these securities is used by the U.S. Treasury for general Government purposes”.

It’s telling us the money borrowed from your Social Security is spent as general tax revenue. You are paying money into a retirement system but the Government spends everything not needed this week by issuing you an I.O.U. The Government borrows your money, leaves you a Treasury Bill, and then immediately spends what they borrowed.

Section 5 goes on to say:

“When the OASI and DI trust funds require redemption of these securities to make expenditures, the Government finances those expenditures out of accumulated cash balances, by raising taxes, by borrowing from the public, or repaying less debt”.

It’s telling you they took your retirement money, left you an I.O.U. and will now have to divert Federal Income Tax money to pay you back.

How much money has the Government borrowed from your retirement system? Section 5 tells us:

“SSA’s investment in Special-Issue U.S. Treasury Securities is $2.586 Trillion as of Sept. 30, 2010”.

Now you know the truth. Rather than being nearly bankrupt as our politicians claim, your Social Security system is over $2.5 Trillion over-funded. The Government borrowed that amount because it was not needed.

Why are we being lied to about the dire financial shape of the system? Because the Government spent your retirement and they don’t want to pay it back. Neither party is willing to raise taxes or cut other spending to repay your I.O.U.s. Make no mistake, this money is yours. If you had a bond to cash but the bank said they’d rather spend your money on something else, would you allow it? No, you would not. You’d tell the bank they’d damn well better give you your money. We should not allow the Government to steal our retirement money either.
The Social Security System is in extremely strong financial shape. Anyone who says otherwise is lying by proof of the Government’s own SS financial reports. Our politicians are trying to steal it from us if we’ll allow it. Only a fool would pay into a retirement system for years and then let someone take it away. Are you are fool? Speak up when you hear the lies. Don’t let bureaucrats attack a retirement you paid for with your hard earned labor.
